PayPal, a money transfer company, has no plans to open an office in Pakistan in the next two years, according to a meeting of Pakistan's Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology.
Junaid Imam, a member of the Ministry of Information Technology, while briefing the committee on Tuesday, said that the ministry was taking various steps to facilitate international transactions for Pakistani freelancers.
He said that besides promoting Pakistani startups, efforts were being made to bring other international gateways to Pakistan, however, Pakistan was not included in PayPal's two-year business plan.
The IT member told the committee that PayPal did not want to come to Pakistan and work according to the laws here.
Member IT Junaid Imam said that PayPal is aware that many freelancers are still benefiting from PayPal service by creating accounts abroad and they have provided a large portion of business from Pakistan here. Achieved without.
"There is no point in providing direct service to them in Pakistan when they are getting business without following the rules and regulations of Pakistan."
Consider facilitating a bright digital account style for freelancers
Ministry of IT officials told Urdu News after the committee meeting that a new service in the style of Roshan Digital Account is being considered to facilitate freelancers in transactions from abroad.
He said that consultations were underway with SBP and other stakeholders but work on the project would be started after removing the concerns of all stakeholders.
According to officials, initially proposals are being considered to allow transactions of up to 250 250 from these accounts as there are concerns from the SBP about money laundering and terror financing.
Is Starlink going to launch its service in Pakistan?
Chairman Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) Major General (retd) Amir Azeem Bajwa asked about the launch of Star Link in Pakistan. "The company has applied for a license to provide services in Pakistan which will be provided in the next few months," he told the committee.
