Police have identified and arrested 15 key suspects following the death of a man who was tortured by a mob for blasphemy in Mian Channu Tehsil, Khanewal District, Punjab.
According to a press release issued by the Punjab Police Public Relations Department on Sunday, "these arrested accused can be seen torturing Aslam with bricks and sticks."
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the police have so far arrested a total of 85 suspects, among whom the main culprits are being identified. Efforts are being made to arrest and identify more suspects with the help of CCTV footage.
"Crowd violence will be dealt with severely"
After the incident, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that mob violence and those who took the law into their own hands would be dealt with severely.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Imran Khan said in a Twitter statement that "those who take the law into their own hands by any individual or group will not be tolerated."
He said that a report has been sought from the Punjab Police Chief against those responsible for the incident in Mian Channu and the officials who were negligent in discharging their duties.
In Mian Channu, a man was beaten to death by a mob for alleged blasphemy.
What was the real event?
According to local media, local media in Pakistan on Sunday said that the incident took place in Jangal Dera village where hundreds of locals gathered after Maghrib prayers after the announcement.
"The locals first hung the man from a tree and then beat him with bricks and stones until he died."
Inspector General of Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan has submitted a preliminary report to Chief Minister Usman Bazdar.
According to the report, 33 persons were named in the incident while a case was registered against 300 unknown persons.
Police raided more than 120 locations and detained 62 suspects.
Detainees include key law enforcement suspects.

Pakistan's Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that he has repeatedly called attention to the destructive extremism in the education system.
He said that incidents like Sialkot and Mian Channu have been a part of education system for decades.
"It's a matter of law enforcement as well as the degradation of society. Schools, police stations and pulpits should be prepared for catastrophe if these three are not reformed."

We will not forgive anyone involved in violence
Talking to media, Tahir Ashrafi, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Religious Affairs, said that no one involved in the violence would be forgiven. The accused will be punished.
He said that in his capacity as Chairman Ulema Council, he appealed to the Supreme Court to expedite the hearing of blasphemy cases.
He said that if anyone commits a crime, there are police and courts for it.
The incident comes after a Sri Lankan national was tortured and then set on fire by factory workers in Sialkot in December.
